The Super Coupes (1989–1997)

A 1989 Silver Metallic Super Coupe Ford Thunderbird

The final rear-wheel-drive-inspired spirit of Thunderbird arrived in the MN12 generation.

Introduced in 1989, these Thunderbirds featured fully independent rear suspension, sleek aerodynamic styling, and advanced engineering that rivaled far more expensive cars.

The Super Coupe models became legends among enthusiasts thanks to their supercharged V6 engines, performance suspensions, and sophisticated drivetrains. These cars could comfortably cruise long distances while also delivering serious handling capability.

Ford invested heavily in engineering this generation, and it showed. The MN12 Thunderbird felt refined, planted, and modern in ways earlier generations could not.

Though changing market trends eventually ended Thunderbird production in 1997, these cars remain favorites among drivers who appreciate comfort combined with genuine performance.
